How to Make Money Growing Small Plants at Home
Do you have a small area in your back yard just sitting around doing nothing? If so you can now turn that small vacant parcel into a money making adventure. Think about it, just by utilizing a small space of say 30 feet by 40 feet you can have a profitable garden in your back yard. You will most likely be very surprised at how many plants you can fit into that small space and how much money you can make from them. Even apartment dwellers can have fun doing this project. Just find someone who is willing to give you, rent you or go into a joint venture with you that has a small space of land. Now in case you are wondering if there is a market for these small plants let me tell you what they did last year alone: about 4 Billions dollars. Not bad! Plus you have an advantage over the larger nurseries. They have large overheads where yours will be very low to almost nothing. It is easy with this small patch of land to grow tens of thousands of plants. Your biggest buyer will be the large wholesale plant growers. They can't keep up with the demand so they will turn to you and others like you to supplement their stock. Imagine enjoying your plants and the outdoors while earning the extra income you need. An example of someone who uses the services of the small plant grower is a friend of mine who loves Japanese Maples. However, my friend has no patience to grow them from seed. So he buys them when they are seedlings from small growers and then just plants them and he is ready to go. So for an investment of say .75 cents a piece he can have beautiful Japanese Maples all over his property with no work of his own. My friend also has bought flowering shrubs. He bought a few of these for .50 cents and then potted them up the next year and sold them for $4.95 each. He also took some of the plants while they were growing and cut off some pieces that he started to grow on his own. No he has a steady income and no more investment in buying this type of plant again. Remember the above examples are also some of the reasons that wholesale nurseries are looking for small plant growers like you. They know they can buy the small plants they need much less from you than from the large nurseries. This adds to their profits without adding a lot to their expenses. If you are wondering why your expenses will be so low the reason is you will not have to buy hundreds of acres of property. You won't need to buy tractors, trucks, employees or even buildings. Ok, you might be wondering at this point how much money you need to get started. Well the wonderful answer to that is almost none! All you have to do to be successful is to root some cuttings. This is extremely easy and you'll find all the information you need at www.freeplants.com Next you need to think about the size of the area that you will need for all your cuttings. The best size to start is the size of a picnic table. If you root your cuttings in flats that are about 12" by 15" you can get about 100 to 150 cuttings per flat. So with the size of a picnic table you should be able to root a couple thousand cuttings at one time. So as soon as they are well rooted you can sell them for .50 cents a piece. Now multiply that by 1500 cuttings and you have a total of $750 from your cuttings. Not bad! You also can grow them until they are bigger and sell them for $4.95 each instead of the .50 cents each. That will increase your profit margin considerably. I know someone in this business that sold their plants for $49.50 each and made $25,000 right from their driveway! So whether you want to sell your plants to the big plant wholesalers or just sell them from your driveway is not the question. The question is do you want to earn the extra money you are looking for spending your time outside working with your love of plants? What could be better? Growing plants, enjoying the outdoors and making money at the same time.
